How to make your own self-watering planter
Ever heard of a self-watering planter? Well now you have!
These DIY ‘wicking’ planters store water in a hidden reservoir to help your plants stay hydrated for longer. The best part is they’re super easy to make yourself from materials you can find at your local garden centre or DIY shop. Check out our step by step video with Ciaran from Sow The City to learn how you can make your own…
To make the planter yourself, you’ll need:
Pea gravel (be sure to rinse this first)
Compost (peat free of course!)
A trug or pot
Something to make holes in your trug or pot (scissors, a drill, etc)
And some other bits that are nice to have:
A pipe (can be different sizes)
Some fabric (mulch mat or t-shirt would be great!)
Horticultural grit to dress the top
