Meet Josie: the newest member of the In Our Nature team

Since joining In Our Nature, Josie’s been hard at work helping community projects across Manchester to take climate action.

“So far, the best thing has been seeing all the amazing community led work happening in Manchester and meeting the people making it happen!”

What were you up to before joining the In Our Nature team?

Before joining the In Our Nature team I was working for an urban and rural place design practice called Planit. As they’re a B Corp embedding sustainability into the business was really important, so I was helping to do things like measuring their carbon footprints and writing their Enviromental Management System. And before that I spent a few years with Patagonia Manchester learning the ropes in the environmental and community building world. 🌱

What projects are you working on at the moment?

We have lots going on over the summer! We’re helping a group of residents to green up their alleyways and another group to improve accessibility to their green space through translation. We’ve also just launched a Repair Cafe in Chorlton Park with the lovely Stitched Up (shameless plug haha). We also have lots of exciting projects coming up around cycling, food and football and community composting but I can’t say much more just yet! ✨

What have been some of your favourite things about In Our Nature so far?

So far, the best thing has been seeing all the amazing community led work happening in Manchester and meeting the people making it happen! There are some seriously committed and lovely people making Manchester a better place to live, and it’s been inspiring to work with them! 💘

What are some of your favourite hobbies and activities outside of your work?

Pretty much anything that’s outside! I enjoy the classics – walking, camping, cycling. I also love good food with friends and am an amateur gardener 🍄

What would be your advice to someone looking to do more tackle climate change in Manchester?

Get in touch with your local community groups and see what they’re up to, there are so many people out there doing amazing things and yes, they will want your help! 🤝

What does climate action mean to you?

Climate action is and should be for everyone, it’s about doing things or making choices that are good for the planet and the people living on it too. For me it’s about making choices that are achievable and make sense for you, if you make it hard for yourself it’s so much harder to keep going! 🌞
